30 Years of Legend of the Five Rings Episode 3
An Interview with D.J. Trindle
“30 Years of Legend of the Five Rings,” the second series of the Play to Win podcast from Aconyte Books, continues. This series of interviews celebrates 30 years since the debut of L5R at Gen Con 1995, and explores the perspectives of the people who had a hand in the franchise’s making, past and present; the lasting impacts L5R had on their lives; and what about L5R has made it an enduring force in the tabletop games industry after all these years.
In Episode 3, host Katrina Ostrander dives deeper into the early days of Legend of the Five Rings. She talks to D.J. Trindle, who wore many hats at AEG, not least of all Line Editor for the L5R Roleplaying Game. He shares his insights into how a card game gets made, how the first edition of the RPG came together (actual katanas were involved), and the cardinal rule of rules editing. She also learns about the origins of the Sparrow minor clan, and how a Rokugani dice game referenced in flavor text became a real game you could actually play.
